Purchasing a Domain Name for Your Business

One of the most important aspects of creating an online business is the domain-name. The success of online marketing depends highly on the amount of traffic it is able to generate. In other words, the more people who visit the website, the most likely the larger the sales. Thus, finding a memory-worthy domain name is essential.

Domain-names are purchased. This is the easiest part of acquiring one. The hardest part is deciding, and the finding the right domain name. Finding because not all domain-names you choose may still be available. Many have already created domain-names including the ones you just thought of. In fact, majority of the one or two word domain-names have already been exhausted. Thus, people nowadays are using longer domain-names.

Here are some things to think about before purchasing a domain name for your business:

1. Choose a domain name that sticks in memory. Remember, memorable is better than cute. A unique name that is easy to remember will do your business wonders come the future.

2. Use a '.com' for a business. And if they are still available, purchase other extensions of the main domain name so that anytime anyone makes the mistake of perhaps typing a.org instead of a.com, you can automatically guide the potential customer to your main website.

3. Use normal spelling. For example, don't use a 'z' in lieu of an 's'. People are more familiar with normal spelling than slang. You can lose potential customers if they don't know how to end up in your website because of spelling. And that would be a real shame. And most advertisements rely on a users ear more than his vision. For example, an advertisement on the radio about your website is heard by people, not seen.

4. Definitely DO NOT use numerals in your domain name. A combination of numerals is harder to remember than words.

5. Keep the domain name as short as possible. The longer the domain name, the harder it becomes to remember.

6. If you can, avoid using hyphens. They are confusing.
